The origins of Better Body Fitness trace back to 1983 when an energetic man by the name of Jim McKee opened a "hard core" club on Boone Street in Spokane, WA called "The Better Body". Jim's charisma made it a fun place for all types of people to enjoy. Well, of course, with the gym came great success. Jim reluctantly left the gym business and let his love for biking lead him to work at Wheel Sport Cycle and Fitness were he discovered his knack for sales. However, when his boss wanted to put the fitness equipment away for the summer, he decided to dust off the Better Body name and hit the road.
In 1993 Jim became a distributor of sport performance drinks and a vendor for three major commercial fitness equipment lines. He traveled the Northwest in a 1 ton van selling drinks and taking equipment orders. Jim ordered, delivered and repaired fitness equipment from Ellensburg to Bozeman and from Idaho Falls to Bend. As the miles tacked by Better Body Fitness grew and the trips to Montana became longer and more grueling, Jim hired Mona Erb as his commercial equipment representative in Montana.
Mona had previously been the Fitness Director for the Helena YMCA and was eager to join the Better Body team when given the opportunity. Mona's husband Clint was soon delving into service and installation work throughout Montana and quickly formed his own servicing company called Fitness Systems Technologies. Well, as the story goes, commercial equipment sales and service grew to a point where Jim could no longer administer all of the Montana business as well as Washington and Idaho. So, in 2000, Mona and Clint Erb purchased the Montana region of Better Body Fitness and merged with Fitness Systems Technologies to become Better Body Fitness of Montana, Inc.
With the success of our commercial sales and service, Better Body Fitness of Montana opened its first retail location in 2001. Soon after, business grew by leaps and bounds. Better Body Fitness of Montana is now a corporation with seven employees, retail locations, warehouses, a full service and repair department, a fleet of trucks, and of course two Better Body Fitness affiliate stores in Washington.
In addition to sales and service, Better Body Fitness provides professional consultation services, CAD drawings with equipment layout and rubber floor sales. What sets Better Body Fitness apart is that we focus one hundred percent on quality fitness equipment with a selection of high quality, proven brand names that include Precor, Cybex, Octane, True, Vision Fitness, Paramount, FreeMotion, SportsArt, Torque, BH Fitness and PaceMaster.
Clint Erb, Owner
Clint co-owns Better Body Fitness with his wife, Mona. Clint was raised in Montana and holds a bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree from Principia College and the University of Illinois, respectively. He is a certified service provider and manufacturers representative with over twenty years experience in corporate management, fitness equipment sales, service and club consulting. Clint specializes in commercial and government equipment sales as well as providing services to a variety of vertical market, institutional, non-profit and private clients.
Mona Erb, Owner
Mona co-owns Better Body Fitness with her husband, Clint. Mona serves as the company’s bookkeeper and human resource specialist. She began her career as a certified fitness instructor and fitness director at the Helena Family YMCA. She has over twenty years experience in equipment sales, bookkeeping, fitness program development, fitness center management and personal training.
Steve King, Helena Store Manager
Steve joined Better Body Fitness in 2002 as a Fitness Advisor and was also hired to help launch the opening of and manage The Great Northern Fitness Company which was a showcase fitness center for the best in Commercial fitness equipment. Steve is the Store Manager for the Helena Corporate office, purchasing agent for Better Body Fitness of Montana and continues to specialize in fitness equipment sales, service, and fitness room design and product consultation. Steve received his ISSA Personal Training Certification in 2004.
Dan Erb, Commercial Service Manager
Dan joined Better Body Fitness in 2002 as the company’s lead Service Technician. Dan is now the Service Manager and is responsible for our service department while specializing in commercial service and installation. Dan is a Certified Cybex and Level 2 Precor Service Technician. He regularly travels throughout Montana and Wyoming servicing our commercial clients to ensure their fitness equipment meets stringent industry standards. Dan’s regular clients include resorts, health clubs, hotels, gyms, colleges and universities, municipalities, military facilities and other commercial facilities.
Greg Monical, Billings Store Owner
Greg is a graduate of Rocky Mountain College in Billings Montana where he earned a degree in Exercise Science. Greg has been a certified strength and conditioning specialist and personal trainer for 25 years. Greg has been involved with virtually every aspect of the fitness business since 1985. Greg opened the Billings Better Body Fitness store in 2006. Greg is currently involved with the commercial sales and service in Montana and Wyoming.
Seth Holzheimer, Billings Retail Sales Manager
Seth joined Better Body Fitness in 2008 as the Retail Sales Manager in the Billings store. Seth specializes in fitness equipment sales, service, and fitness room design and product consultation.
